A young male giraffe, named Marius, was put down at a Danish zoo despite numerous attempts by others to save it. Zoo officials sited "inbreeding" as their concern, and hence this fellow had to go.
Visitors to the zoo were welcomed to watch as the giraffe was put down (gun bolt) and autopsied. Afterwards, the remains of the animal was fed to the zoo's lions.
